beyond the city's reach

Whenever I turn I see a brick wall
And they all seem to stand so tall
The only green I’ve ever seen are in window boxes
The only green I’ve ever seen is a neon sign
I look around and never see a smile
Just blank faces walking an endless mile

A tree grows in a city somewhere
And I’m still searching
My heart knows it’s here somewhere
But I’ve yet to find it

Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to go
Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to grow
Out in the sunshine
And the hip high corn

I want to be beneath a big open sky
But around me all I can see is a fog of grey
There is something so oppressive about all this brick and glass
I want to find my way out
A path that will lead me to the city walls
Where the sun shines high above it all

A tree grows in a city somewhere
And I’m still searching
My heart knows it’s here somewhere
But I’ve yet to find it

Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to go
Take me beyond the city’s reach
That’s where I need to grow
Out in the sunshine
And the hip high corn
